I solo cleared the Plains of Jarin (x5), Zehlon Reach (x2), the Cliffs of Dohjok (x2), and Issur Isles (x2) yesterday as a MM.

I got TWO gold items the entire day. My other drops were ~10 dyes (one white, zero black) and a handful of drake meat and other collectibles. Something is going on.

And, generally, I was just aggroing enemies and healing minions, not attacking directly.

I'd say minions are definately stealing drops.

A couple reasons for daggers.

1. Assassins can come over from Factions.

2. Unless I missed something, only Elonian weapons can use inscriptions, making them much more versatile than Prophecies or Factions weapons.

As for the drops, my Paragon got a gold drop and a green drop before leaving noob island -- though neither was max damage.

Personally I think we all got a little spoiled on all the max damage/high mod stuff from earlier campaigns, but it does seem less likely to drop max damage items in NF compared to the other campaigns.

It's also kind of annoying that I can't seem to use the Vitae and other armor mods on anything but NF armor -- or did I miss something? Is it that you have to have the plain armor to use these? I can't really afford to buy 10 new suits of armor just for ability to use the new mods.

You're playing in a newb zone. That's perfectly normal. You're very lucky to have gotten a white dye.

I've gotten 3 black dyes drop for me since the first day gw came out.

If you want good drops, try getting off pre searing island lmao.

No, your minions do not take drops.

Hmmm....

anyone else find it very interesting that Gaile is asking for information rather than outright saying drops are random, as she has always done in the past?

This issue could be truth, it could be perception, it could be that things are functioning as planned. Those reporting the issue would help a lot of they provide any facts and figures they might have on hand, or if they would list:
  • the profession(s) you are playing that specifically seem shorted on drops. Provide birthplace, e.g., Elonian Ranger; Canthan Warrior.
  • the area(s) in which you are playing
  • the Heroes or Henchies you are using
Thanks very much.
Okay then, here are my stats.

1 - Elonian Ranger/Mesmer

2 - Since she reached the mainland she did not get much, most of the time nothing, zilch, nada niente! She is now on her way to Vabbi and did all the missions and quests before that.

3 - Heroes: Koss, Dunkoro and Melonni.
Henchies: Devona/Mesmer/Sunspear/Earth ele/

I usually don't use keys because I always get craps and I do not have much gold to waste. The no "almost" drops is a bit disappointing but it could be just me (point to the unlucky one-self!) anyway I start to get used to it!

Thx

I don't really have any complaints about the drop system for the game. From my perspective nothing much has changed (apart from the fact that now when I get a Sup Absorb rune my response is "oh no not another can't I get something else for a change?" rather than "woohoo!").

It just seems that the number of daggers dropping seems disproportionality high for the number of assassins which would be playing through the game. I guess they're kind of like raven staffs in other parts of the game, about as useful and once you notice that you're getting them you just can't take your mind off it.

Elonian Dervish (lol)

areas- kourna and istan.

heroes- tahlkora, koss, jin, olias (rotating).

worthless drops FTW. It seems to me that heroes are actually stealing drops much more than henchies do. Just saying. IMHO- heroes shouldn't even GET drops. They are ours, share our inventory, the weapons we give them. Bah.

Istan = Good & huge variety of drops for new players

Off Isatan = Drops suck and very little variety of drops for anyone.

Gaile - in answer to your question...

A very old Tyrian Ele (my first and favourite character, especially with the lovely new skills...

In Every Area of Nightfall after Istan (for some reason, I get aburd numbers of Gold/Purple drops there, useless, but gratifying), I cleared the entire Domain of Secrets and got (not counting the chests, which have become my only hope) 27 whites, 1 non-max purple Nightmare Spear, and a single blue scroll of Rampager's insight from the Ele Boss (who steadfastly refuses to give me his green, despite intensive efforts).

I tend to play with the two Monk heros and the Master of Whispers as a curses necro (so not the Minion loot bug some people seem to think is there), and usually Devona.

As an aside - this may just be a product of my fevered imagination, but I spent an hour in Kamadan chatting with guildies about this, and ended up taking a survey. Of 34 people offering to sell green weapons (not counting beginner island ones) over that hour, 28 were either Paragons or Dervishes. Is there some sort of conspiracy involving new characters getting better drops? Or campaign specific professions having a higher chance of increased drops in the campaign to which they are unique.

In any event, despite dismissing the million and one 'Zomg my drops are nerfed' threads that invariably appear, one this that seems increasingly clear is that while the drop system has random elements, the actual chance of achieving a drop is known by God alone (my new name for the design team, yes I liked NF that much ) knows how many variables, and somewhere along the line, something has gone awry in effectively nerfing some peoples drops.

Did i shoot myself in the foot royally by getting my Ele millions of XP? It sure feels that way when I party with someone who's just reached level twenty and they get one of those infamous runs of beginner's luck...

*takes off the tinfoil hat and puts away the Big Book of GW Conspiracies*

I'll bet Gwen is stealing my drops!

And in a quick rejoinder to a later point, while it's true that Paragons and Dervishes are (expectedly) over represented at present in Elona, they don't constitute anything like 80% of the population. 30% maybe, 40% tops if they're all hiding, but nothing to explain why they seem to have vastly better luck in getting drops from Elonian bosses. I'd bet real money it's not because they're any more efficient at actually killing the bosses!

ok dont get me wrong here, i LOVE this game. It is my favorite campaign so far and im loving every minute of it. But i agree wih the thread starter. How is it that i can kill a lvl 24 boss warrior that does 100 damage to me with a swing, but he drops a 13-19 req 8 white sword?? something is severly wrong with the drop system in this game.

So i took Gaile's advice, that if i saw this is a real problem to submit the info from the guidelines she provided to Anet support. This is the response i got from Support::

Quote:

So i make a thread to see if more people see this as a problem, it attracts enough attention to warrent Gaile's response in which she suggests contacting support. I contact support, and they tell me to make a thread!

Lol, does the circle ever end?
cheers!

The reason could perhaps be that 80% of the Characters in Elona are a Dervish or Paragon...

Im really disappointed by the drops too though.
Not by their number, but by their quality.

Tons of non-max scythes, spears and daggers, very little staves, wands and melee weapons.
I also got like 50 of +17% cast time or +17% recharge inscriptions, but not a single +20%...

Ya, I'm having the same problem. Ever since Nightfall came out, I seem to only be getting one or two item drops, and then a few random enemy drops, whether I'm with henchies and heros or not. And this is on all my characters. Of course, I haven't even gotten to the first mainland mission with any of my characters yet (but I have gotten to the sunspear outpost place thing in the mainland with a few of my chars), so I thought that maybe my drop troubles would be fixed, but judging from this post, it seems like I will keep getting bad drops the rest of Nightfall.

I haven't gotten a single gold yet either, but I have gotten 1 purple, although that was from a chest.

In Cantha or Tyria, even if I'm in a full group with henchies or players, normally I at least get 10 drops of weapons alone per time I go do missions or quests! But now, even when soloing....

I really hope that my drops increase as I get farther in the game....I really wana equip my heros with new things, but it's hard with so few drops...

And during the dye drops weekend, I played almost the whole weekend (I played every chance I got), and I didn't get a single dye drop! I really wanted some blue dyes...I'm running out of those...

Oh Gaile, if this helps, so far I have played mostly on my Canthan Monk, Elonian Mesmer, Elonian Paragon, Canthan Assassin and Elonian Dervish. I have also played a little on my Tyrian Ranger and Warrior (but not much).

I have only played in Elona since Nightfall came out (excluding the quests to get to Elona, which I seemed to have normal drop rates in BTW), and like I said before, I have only gotten as far as the sunspear sanctuary on the mainland, which I think is the second town you get to. But still, I'm currently fighting lvl 20+ enemies with some of my chars, so shouldn't I be at least getting max damage weapons from those enemies? So far I don't think I got anything even close to a max damage weapon in Elona, excluding my preorder weapons that is...

Oh, and I always have one of the healer heros with me, and then 2 other heros depending on where I am and what I am doing, and then I fill the rest of the team with random henchies.

Gaile, please, please say this is a glitch or something that is going to be fixed soon. Koss doesn't like using his 1-2 damage sword that he started with against lvl 20+ enemies!

I agree. Maybe not give us their gold drops, but since we have to equip them with our own weapons, at least let us get their weapon drops! It's not like they even use their weapon drops anyway.

Does 1 justify 20-40% of drops being daggers? No.

Does 2 justify 20-40% of drops being daggers? No.

The heroes and their minions are conspiring to steal my drops!

I agree it's been extremely pathetic in terms of drops for me. And I used to see some golds and ecto in Cantha and Tyria.

My monk bred and born in Tyria, has cleared more than 30% of the map in Elona, completed every subquest so far (cleared the maps as far NW as the sulfurous wastes, NE as the drought mission, and as far south as I can go. Finished all missions up to and including "saving koss on that moon island" and the Drought in the floodplains.

99% of the time I've been forced to adventure w/ heroes (Olias, Ele Acoyte, Melonni/Koss), henchies.

I got my first drop in Nightfall last night in the drought mission, a sup curses. I've never had a green drop even though I kill any bosses I see, I've had about 3 purple armors, maybe 5-10 purple weapons. This is from clearing every zone, exploring as I go, and doing every single side quest available for a total of around 6000 sunspear pts.
The drops are extremely pathetic for me.. just playing normally, I count myself lucky these days to even receive 100g from a monster.

I've asked another friend who has always been extremely luck in drops. Him playing thru normally on his dervish w/ heroes/henchies has netted him about 4-6 high end greens, 10+ golds, several gems and other nice drops. He has abnormally good drops.. always. We can adventure together and he'll invariably get 3 out of every 4 greens or gold that drop, even after he's just been repeatedly solo farming green bosses earlier.

It's just so.. wrong.

On the bright side, I think I benefitted from the double dye weekend. I got 2 purple dyes instead of 1!

lol...

Greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed.

I'm satisfied with the drop system. I'd very satisfied if everyone that played Prophecies and/or Factions start playing Nightfall full time, and leave behind all the beautiful scenery on Tyria and Cantha to immerse themselves deeper into others' pockets, hoping to get that Gold Enchanted 20% Max Damage Req7 Dmg15^50 Sundering 20/20 Armor+5 Always, With Energy+5 Always on top of HP+30 and recieved dmg -3, coupled with an inscription "Pwn You All!" Armor+9(vs Elemental) of Attribute Mastery +1(20%) with HSR and HCT all 10%! So they can sell it for 200k + at least 10(xx) ectos, which I've never even had the pleasure to see yet in my 7 months of Guild Wars, got to experience the fact that people who don't normally play the game 24/7 don't ever get to see the 100k that these items actually fetch due to OBSOLETION and/or price wars that result in whinage from people like you.

You people are insane to think that you'll get a gold drop every single time you play the game.

The greedy ones are the ones assuming its about gold drops when others are strongly talking about white drops and the like.

I'm getting very poor drops, but my largest complaint is that I see no max damage weapons, even white ones. (This is with a Tyrian warrior character.) I'm 2 missions from the end of the game, and getting sub-damage weapons? And I've had ONE gold drop, and it was still not max damage. Very weird.

Edit: I have been using Olias as MM the whole time...
